According to L’Equipe, however, the negotiations failed to bring about an agreement with the Spanish side said to be a long way from meeting the Ligue 1 team’s asking price.

Romaric was wanted in order to replace Seydou Keita, who is expected to join Barcelona for €14m in the next few days, bt Sevilla will now have to look elsewhere.

Le Mans were insistent that the former Beveren midfielder was part of their plans next season and would not let him go on the cheap.

Earlier reports had indicated that the player had undergone a medical at Sevilla and was ready to put pen-to-paper ona four-year deal before the two sides recognised that their talks were heading nowhere.
