Marseille Land Lens’ Akale On Loan

Monday 7 January 2008 by Sagesse

Marseille have taken Lens midfielder Kanga Akale on loan with a view to a permanent move...

The Lens midfielder is OM’s third signing of the winter transfer window, joining Boca Juniors ace Juan Krupoviesa and Libourne-Saint-Seurin defensive midfielder Charles Kabore.

Akale, 26, signs up until June, but with a purchase option attached to his contract that could see him arrive at the Velodrome on a permanent basis for around 3 to 3.5 million euros.

The former Auxerre man will join up with his teammates tomorrow after arriving in the southern city on Thursday evening.

Akale was brought to Lens during summer by his former Auxerre mentor Guy Roux, but his start to the season mirrored that of the manager and team: namely, it was unsatisfactory.

Having taken part in just nine games this season, and apparently being out of favour with new coach Jean-Pierre Papin, the door was open tfor a move to a side which, alongside Atletico Madrid, had tracked him for some time.

It is hoped that the Ivorian can now recapture the form that saw him score nine league goals last season in Ligue 1.
